Scribd ist ein Webportal, das Nutzer verwenden können, um Dokumente hochzuladen und mit anderen Personen zu teilen. Im Herbst 2006 begann die Beta-Phase der Plattform, am 6. März 2007 startete der Echtbetrieb. Das Portal verzeichnet derzeit eigenen Angaben rund 10 Millionen Zugriffe monatlich und hat rund 185.000 registrierte Benutzer (Stand: Januar 2008).
Wegen seiner Ähnlichkeit zur Videoplattform YouTube wird Scribd auch als „YouTube für Dokumente“ bezeichnet. Benutzer des Portals können Dokumente unterschiedlicher Formate wie Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org, PDF sowie verschiedene Bildformate hochladen. mehr…
